Biografia
Josep Sanz i Quintana neix l'any 1977 a Barcelona. Estudia composició amb Albert Sardà i piano amb Mª Jesús Crespo al Conservatori Superior Municipal d'aquesta ciutat, i direcció d'orquestra amb Francesc Llongueres. Posteriorment estudia anàlisi amb Agustí Charles a l'Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, on també assisteix a les classes de composició amb Helmut Lachenmann, Manuel Hidalgo i José M. López López.
L'any 2003 es trasllada a Stuttgart per prosseguir els seus estudis en composició, anàlisi -fent especial menció en les obres dels darrers trenta anys- i música electrònica -programes Max/MSP, Openmusic...- amb Caspar Johannes Walter, Matthias Hermann i Marco Stroppa respectivament, becat per la Fundació Alexander von Humboldt (2003-05) i per la Generalitat de Catalunya.
Ha assistit a cursos com els de Darmstadt (2006) i l'Impuls de Graz (2007), on rep classes i consells de B. Furrer, B. Lang, E. Poppe, M. André, A. Hölzsky i G. Aperghis entre d'altres i també a masterclasses de Wolfgang Rihm, Johnathan Harvey, Fabio Nieder, Mario Garutti, Walter Zimmermann, Josep Soler i Joan Guinjoan, entre d'altres.
L'any 2005 li és otorgat per unanimitat el Premi Internacional de Composició Joan Guinjoan, així com el Premi Neue Musik für Schülerorchester, organitzat per Musik der Jahrhunderte a Stuttgart. El seu III Quartet de Corda va ser finalista al Concurs d'Escoles Superiors d'Alemanya (2004).
Les seves obres han estat estrenades a Alemanya, França i Catalunya. La seva darrera obra ha estat estrenada a la temporada del CDMC a Madrid pel Trio Accanto amb properes interpretacions a Mainz, Múnich i Stockholm. Aquesta obra ha estat triada recentment per formar part del concert de música de càmbra que representarà la cultura catalana a la fira de Frankfurt.
Josep Sanz i Quintana was born in Barcelona in 1977. He got his Composition Degree with Albert Sardà and his Pianoforte Degree with Maria Jesús Crespo, both in Music Superior Conservatorium in Barcelona (CSMMB). He also studied Conduction with Francesc Llongueres. Later on He studied analysis in the Superior Catalonia Music School (ESMUC) with Agustí Charles, where he also attended to composition clases by Helmut Lachenmann, Manuel Hidalgo and José M. López López.
The year 2003 he moves to Stuttgart to continue his studies in composition, analysis -making special mention in the works of the last thirty years- and music electronics -programs Max/MSP, Openmusic...- with Caspar Johannes Walter, Matthias Hermann and Marco Stroppa respectively. He got a Grant from Alexander von Humboldt Fundation (2003-05) and another one from Generalitat de Catalunya.
He has attended courses like Darmstadt (2006) and the Impulse of Graz (2007), where he receives classes of H. Lachenmann, B. Furrer, B. Lang, E. Poppe, M. André, A. Hölzsky and G. Aperghis among other and also atended masterclasses of Wolfgang Rihm, Johnathan Harvey, Fabio Nieder, Mario Garutti, Walter Zimmermann, Josep Soler and Joan Guinjoan, among other.
In 2005 he got the International Composition Award Joan Guinjoan, and the Neue Musik fŸr Schülerorchester Award, organized by Musik der Jahrhunderte in Stuttgart. His III Chamber quartet was finalist on the German Music Superior Schools Concurs (2004).
His works have been performed in Germany, France and Catalonia. His last work has been premiered by the Trio Accanto at the season of the CDMC in Madrid and latter in Mainz (Germany). This work has been chosen recently for being part of the concert of chamber music that will represent the Catalan culture in the Book-fair of Frankfurt.
